Contributor Susan Greene's essay, "Painting the Wall," recounts one of the mural projects completed by Break the Silence Mural Project, an organization she co founded in 1989. A 'window unto Palestine,' BTS brings stories of life on the ground back to the US through art and culture.
These photos are of the mural painted for a Palestinian family who refused to move off its land and found itself surrounded on all four sides by Israel's "security fence" (both fence and 24 ft. concrete wall).

"The mural was like opening a window for the world. One day the wall will be demolished. I wish I could open this cage and fly with my children,  like the free bird in the mural."--Munira Aamer
